Abridgment of the implementation of Myanmar Trade Promotion Organization-MYANTRADE

Regarding to the goodwill visit of the President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, on October 2012 to Korea, the two countries’ leader had agreed to set up Myanmar Trade Promotion Organization-MYANTRADE by the kind support of the Republic of Korea.

Record of Discussion-ROD

Record of Discussion (ROD) was signed with the purpose of trade and trade-related investment promotion on March 6, 2014. The Department of Trade Promotion and Consumer Affairs of the Ministry of Commerce, and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), had discussed ROD in accordance with Terms of Reference, and agreed the project of capacity development for Trade-Investment Promotion and Establishment of Master Plan for MYANTRADE by ROD.

Agreed Minutes

At the 2nd Korea-Myanmar Joint Committee for Economic Cooperation held in Seoul, Korea last October, 2014, the Union Minister for National Planning and Economic Development, Myanmar, the Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Strategy and Finance, Korea signed on Agreed Minutes. The country leaders regarded the promotion of bilateral trade and investment in unison with each other’s, and longed for further general trade cooperation, and to extend collaboration in setting up the MYANTRADE.

  2. The branding of ‘Made- in-Myanmar’ of goods and services will be the key focus of MYANTRADE.

In terms of ODA implementation, KOICA is responsible for Korea’s bilateral grant aid. For the project to implement MYANTRADE Organization, KOICA support with bilateral ODA coupled with kind assistance of KOTRA.

  • USD (3) Million for the Phase I concluding Establishment of Master Plan for the MYANTRADE, and Capacity Building for Trade Promotion

Letter of Intent -LOI

Korea-Myanmar Economic Forum 2015 held at Novotel Hotel, Yangon, Myanmar on May 21, 2015 on which Letter of Intent (LOI) was signed by the Union Minister for the Ministry of Commerce and the President of KOTRA, is the remarkable achievement of MYANTRADE.

Kick-off Meeting

The first Kick-off Meeting for MYANTRADE Master Plan was held at the Lake Garden Hotel,    Nay Pyi Taw on May 22, 2015.

Acquiring the Permission

The proposal dated September 3, 2015 to organize an innovative department entitled in Myanmar Trade Promotion Organization-MYANTRADE under the Ministry of Commerce was submitted to the Union Government and it was approved by the President Office on November 27, 2015.

Expedition for Capacity Building

The 1stStudy Program of Working Level Officials to Seoul, Korea was conducted with (25) Officers from Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of  Finance, Ministry of National Planning and Economic Development and Ministry of Industry from September  6 to 19, 2015.

The 2nd Study Program was correspondingly conducted with (25) Officers from Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of National Planning and Economic Development, Ministry of Industry and Union Attorney General Office from November 15 to 28, 2015.

Senior Level Officials’ expedition was brought to Seoul, Korea from January 24 to 31, 2016 with (19) Senior Officials totally from Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of National Planning and Economic Development, Ministry of Industry, Union Attorney General Office and the Myanmar Garment Manufacturers Association.

The 3nd Study Program was correspondingly conducted with (25) Officers from Ministry of Commerce, Minister’s Office, Department of Trade, Department of Consumer Affairs and Myanmar Trade Promotion Organization (MYANTRADE) of Ministry of commerce  from May 30 to June 11, 2016

The 4nd Study Program was correspondingly conducted with (25) Officers from Ministry of Commerce, Minister’s Office, Department of Trade, Department of Consumer Affairs and Myanmar Trade Promotion Organization (MYANTRADE) of Ministry of commerce  from September 25 to October 8, 2016

Governmental Permission

In accordance with the discussion made by the meeting of Union Government (No. 11/2016) dated March 24, 2016, the establishment of Myanmar Trade Promotion Organization-MYANTRADE was approved and the activities of the organization were proudly started on April 1, 2016.

 

2 nd  Workshop Mid –Term Interim Report

            The 2 nd  Workshop Mid –Term Interim had been convened in Novotel Hotel, Yangon at June 15, 2016 where the Master Plan of Capacity Building of Myanmar Trade Promotion Organization had been read out in total.

MYANTRADE Master Plan Final Reporting Session and KSP Kick-off Seminar

            Consequently at October 13, 2016, the Master Plan Final Reporting Session was successfully held, and at the same day, the Knowledge Sharing Program Kick-off Seminar had also been launched at Park Royal Hotel, Nay Pyi Taw where the officials from particular Departments, Organizations and international development partners alltogether.
